With sales of its iPhone 7 in decline, via Investors.com, Apple is under serious pressure to come up with something revolutionary to bring interest back to their smartphones.
And while many creative techies always imagine a world where the most outrageous features come with an update iPhone release, new info from around the Internet have been leaked by trusted sources, so people are speculating about what the iPhone 8—set to release in 2017—may include.
Per Forbes, here are some of the features being speculated:
The biggest news comes from KGI Securities’ Ming-Chi Kuo (widely regarded as “the best Apple analyst on the planet”) who confirms four significant changes in a report leaked to MacRumors:
Three (not two) premium 2017 iPhone models will be launched, including a new flagship 5.8-inch model
All three new models will switch to glass unibody chassis
Wireless charging will be introduced across the range (thanks to the conductivity in their glass chassis)
LCD screens replaced by thinner, brighter, more efficient OLED panels
Kuo also says he expects that these changes, the most significant since the introduction of the iPhone 6, will rejuvenate the range and break sales records set by the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (120M units) in 2014.
In addition to what Kuo suggests, there’s wide-range speculation that Apple will introduce a curved screen, via Forbes, which will be “a so-called ‘Edgeless display,'” according to the report.
As for additional changes, Forbes mentions the site 9to5Mac, which lists these, potential, features to the next iPhone.
Apple will remove the iPhone’s iconic home button in 2017 – a change that will first be shown off on new iPads introduced during the first quarter
The loss of the home button will result in dramatically thinner bezels allowing Apple to reduce the size of the 2017 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch iPhones while introducing a 5.8-inch model that will be no bigger than the current 5.5-inch iPhone 7 Plus
While some of this may be strictly speculation, Forbes did publish an article this past summer that confirmed Apple was experimenting with the “Edgeless Display,” so it may not too far off the truth.
Even with reports that the iPhone 7 still remains the most desired Christmas gift this year, per Tech Radar, Apple knows that it has to try and win back consumers with an over-the-top design with features that blow the competition out of the water, so only time will tell if they can produce such a phone.
